Matteo Bianchi Studio: Creativity Through Caring

Matteo Bianchi Studio

Matteo Bianchi Studio might be small in stature, but its thirst for innovation and nurturing environment for its team makes it a truly magical place to be.

“We are a small team with a big heart”, explains Founder Matteo Bianchi, who set up the studio 16 years ago. “We have a multicultural team and celebrate and learn from our differences to make us stronger. One thing is sure, though: We all share the same values and support one another, fostering an environment that lends itself beautifully to creativity.”

Acclaimed interior designer Matteo set up his studio in Peckham in 2007 to further his creative business, which was enjoying international attention from clients worldwide. “We have deliberately kept the team small, which makes the atmosphere in the studio vitally important as we feed off one another’s energy. I invest heavily to make sure that energy is positive and that our team is feeling happy, fulfilled and supported.”

Matteo is a huge believer in fostering talent and supporting people to fulfil their career dreams in what can be a cut-throat industry. “We welcome those in junior roles who all progress quickly to become a pillar of the studio, which has allowed us to become accomplished at bringing fresh ideas to the table that no one else is trying within the sector.

“I firmly believe that learning is about growing. I encourage my team to learn from their mistakes and this is a safe space for them to do so. They always come back stronger, and the lessons are that much more indelible.”

As well as celebrating difference and fostering young talent, the studio prides itself on its culture. “Our culture is unmatched anywhere else in the industry”, explains Marketing and Communications Manager, Daisy May Welby. “We are all given opportunities for leadership and the space to voice our opinions without being dismissed. We’re also invited to get involved with other areas of the business, growing our real-world understanding to strengthen our personal skillsets.”

Perks

Space to thrive is an integral pillar of the culture at Matteo Bianchi Studio. Daisy explains: “Flexibility on working spaces and times really helps the team to work to their own strengths and rhythms in order to perform their very best. We’re also encouraged to try out new ideas and bring new things to the table, which enhances the creative experiences for our clients.”

Building team camaraderie isn’t just about working hard to deliver stunning design projects. Daisy says: “We have a team lunch each week where Matteo cooks for us – he makes delicious food and it gives us chance to pause and reflect on achievements, or just have a laugh and some down time. All of us have really come to cherish those moments.”

Matteo adds: “As a creative, I love that no two days in the studio are the same. Our environment is always changing and adapting around us, allowing us to become better and more accomplished versions of ourselves.”

Creative Output

The studio is currently working on a number of projects and product designs that are utilising the team’s creative flare and eye for detail. The studio recently launched its ‘Metropolitan Frames’ collection with Itlas: a beautifully curated range of tables and sideboards, finished in warm woods with a hint of brass and inspired by the heart of London.

“We’re very much enjoying an interiors moment” explains Matteo, “but I have big aspirations for our future. I’d like to flex the team’s creativity on some larger commercial projects, giving us the chance to design with increasing innovation.

“They are less personal than the interior work that we are so adept with, but they allow us to do what we do best – create beauty with no boundaries.”

Inspiration

The inspiration to create and innovate is infused into the studio’s lifeblood. “The team really inspire me to create and push the boundaries of our craft”, explains Senior Interior Designer, Paulo J Luccas. “Designing our furniture ranges is a real passion for me and I love how our team’s personality and vision showcase themselves within the designs.”

Junior Interior Designer, Jennifer Diehl, takes inspiration from the avant-garde legend and pioneer, Vivienne Westwood. “She is the original and greatest of the designers who broke boundaries to create, her way. I like to emulate that independent spirit and get to do that in our studio, which truly feels like a home away from home.”

Founder Matteo notes that inspiration for him comes with creating a home away from home for his team. “Every day, I walk into the office and think: ‘Do I love being here? How can I make the experience the best it can be for my team?’ I believe that ethos is paying huge dividends and I feel very fortunate to work alongside such talented and passionate people.”

Future

“Wider scope to create and innovate through exciting projects and a continuation of the team spirit and sense of energy and fun in the studio”, notes Matteo when asked about his plans for the future of Matteo Bianchi Studio.

“We’re making our presence felt across the globe with our creative footprint and I love seeing my team excel and grow with each passing day. We’re enjoying our moment, creating art and beauty for our clients, and we are loving every second of it.”
