KUMUX, the innovative start-up founded by three doctors from the University of Barcelona, has been honored with the prestigious LpS Digital Award 2023 in the Lighting Control category. The LpS Digital Awards jury recognized KUMUX’s revolutionary approach to automating dynamic lighting through pioneering software that complements traditional control systems with scientific data on the non-visual effects of light on human well-being.
This software, developed by light enthusiasts to enhance the quality of life for occupants of various building types, empowers lighting designers to create dynamic scenes tailored to the geolocation and activity of the space. Whether in offices, nursing homes, hospitals, or schools, KUMUX enables effective implementation by seamlessly integrating with most control systems, adjusting parameters such as illuminance and color temperature based on the spectrum of luminaires used in the project.
The award ceremony took place during the LpS Digital Summit, where lighting experts unveiled the latest developments in design, technology, and lighting applications.
KUMUX emerged from the collaborative efforts of three doctors supported by the University of Barcelona and BeAble Capital. Initially focused on developing software for spectral luminaire design, the company evolved over the years, applying its expertise in light and its non-visual effects to smart buildings.
The culmination of this evolution is KUMUX API, a tool seamlessly integrated with lighting control systems to regulate intensity and color temperature, aligning with the biological needs of the human body throughout the day. This approach enhances the balance of circadian rhythms, our internal clock regulating sleep, as well as hormonal cycles, body temperature, and heart rate. Therefore, this type of lighting not only improves rest but also enhances attention and mood, increasing productivity in work environments, reducing falls in elderly care settings, and expediting patient recovery in hospitals.
In a market saturated with circadian or human-centric lighting products, KUMUX stands out for its innovative software-based approach, simplifying the application of existing technologies and ensuring that dynamic lighting scenes align with the latest scientific advancements and recommendations from international institutions such as WELL and the Lighting Research Center.
KUMUX goes beyond technological development, striving to make the benefits of dynamic lighting understandable to end-users. The company provides tools that support architects, lighting designers, and control specialists in implementing customized lighting solutions in their projects.
The KUMUX team proudly celebrates this award, considering it a recognition of their efforts to enhance people’s well-being through light and create innovative solutions with their unique software approach.
