Set within the beautifully restored Grade II-listed Whiteley building, Third Space, The Whiteley transforms three historic floors into a luxury health club in the heart of west London.
Part of Third Space’s collection of luxury health clubs across London, The Whiteley brings together cutting-edge training facilities with spaces dedicated to fitness, recovery and wellbeing. From high-performance training zones crowned by a bespoke glass dome to the poolside wet spa and recovery facilities, the club moves between energetic and more tranquil environments, all within the character of the historic building.
With such a varied mix of spaces, the lighting needed to respond not only to their different uses, but also to the architecture itself. The lighting design, developed by London Lightworks, works in harmony alongside the interior design and architecture to give each area its own character. Lucent Lighting supplied a broad selection of architectural luminaires for the scheme, with compact fittings and flexible light sources helping to keep the lighting discreet within the interior.
MiniTRIM Round Accent fittings were specified with two different LED51 modules. The Quantum HE module provides a high-efficiency option for precise accent lighting, while the Dynamic Tuneable White version allows the colour temperature to be adjusted, creating light that supports performance as much as creating atmosphere.
Flare90 Accent fittings with LED51 Quantum HE modules were also selected, alongside Soft50 Trim Fixed luminaires with LED35 Gen2 modules. The different formats provide a combination of focused and softer illumination, allowing the scheme to vary the light according to the requirements of the space.
Elsewhere, TubeLED Micro Monopoint spotlights and TubeLED Mini luminaires on mains voltage track provide further flexibility. Their compact proportions allow them to sit comfortably within the architecture, while the track system gives the scheme scope to position and direct light where it is needed.
The specification is completed by InGround40 uplights, Micro40 Oculus and Line5 Cube, adding further options for low-level, integrated and architectural illumination throughout the project.

It’s a great example of how architectural lighting can respond to very different environments within the same project.”
