UK Firm Introduces 3D Printed Bioplastic Downlight

Colt Bio

Ray Molony reports that Shop Light, a Peterborough-based retail lighting specialist, has introduced the Colt Bio, a 3D printed bioplastic downlight based on circular economy principles. The recessed fixed downlight is made in the UK using Greentech Pro, a sustainable bioplastic known for its excellent flexural strength and minimal warping. The outer bezel can be digitally printed to any size up to 300mm in diameter, allowing it to replace larger existing downlights. The Colt Bio is crafted from recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable materials, with a buyback scheme for reconditioning at the end of its life. It features a high-efficiency chip-on-board LED module, reflector, and remote electronic driver, and offers color rendering of CRI90 in various temperatures. The 27W unit delivers 4131 lumens in beam angles of 20, 30, 45, or 55 degrees. Shop Light also provides a remanufacturing service called Recycle, reducing energy consumption by 15-20% with upgraded LED modules and drivers. This initiative is expected to save carbon emissions and reduce waste in landfills.
