Lodes have featured in the new Boschart restaurant in a residential neighbourhood in Antwerp, designed by spnkr. The Tournai-based architecture and interior agency have incorporated the Volum suspension lamp by Snøhetta for Lodes into the space, creating a vibrant yet cosy feel.
The Boschart Restaurant offers an attractive and relaxing space which invites diners to sit down, lounge and mingle. The ceilings are adorned with the Volum lamps – seamless and understated in design – they project an uninterrupted, 360-degree light, creating a calming and coherent atmosphere within the restaurant.
Each Volum lamp measures 42cm, yet each globe is slightly different in shape due to the glass blowing process, resulting in a naturally imperfect circle.
The glossy white lamps are elegant and minimal, integrating well with the other design elements. For example, the lamps gently glow above the wooden dining tables, placed between the room dividers which feature natural curves, earthy shades and hanging plants. Additionally, the lamps draw from the brightly patterned wallpaper, creating a considered, harmonious aesthetic.
The Oslo-based architecture and design studio Snøhetta, were inspired by the architectural need for a contextually adaptable and scalable light, designing Volum as a series of glass lamps that are poetically simple yet complex in its technically drive solution. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Volum’s clean aesthetic allows it to pair easily with a wide range of interiors, such as the Boschart restaurant.
Florence Dewaele and Alexis Letellier, founders of spnkr, comment on the Boschart project and Volum lamp: “Working with materials and colours creates an experience. We specifically chose each fabric, each covering, to achieve this consistency in the overall rendering. But it’s nothing without lighting”.
The design duo continue: “The Volum 42 by Lodes is the perfect ally for the restaurant, as it produces a strong yet subtle effect. Over the tables, its ⌀42cm size gives a generous and soft light like a sweet sunset which creates a relaxed ambience for guests to chill, eat, toast and have fun.”
